The COVID-19 pandemic has put movie theaters across the country at risk of going dark for good. From small independent screens to nationwide exhibitors, our local theaters employ over 150,000 people and have formed a cornerstone of the American experience for generations. Without swift action from Congress our favorite theaters could close forever, depriving audiences of the magic of movies for years to come.

How To Help-

Together, we can urge Congress to keep movie theaters alive until they can fully reopen. Fill out the form letter at www.saveyourcinema.com to tell your legislators that you demand action to save local movie theaters now.

The National Association of Theatre Owners represents over 35,000 movie screens in all 50 states. The moviegoing experience is at the heart of everything we do as we work with lawmakers and film distributors to protect, innovate, and improve the movie theater experience for audiences everywhere.

Tempe Marketplace adds Three new tenants

Although COVID-19 has had profound effects on many retail properties nationwide, Tempe Marketplace continues to expand. The center will debut three new tenants – Sephora, Fox in a Box Escape Room and NUTRISHOP – as part of its evolving shopping, dining and entertainment mix.

Sephora, the popular destination to discover the latest and greatest in all things beauty, will feature aisles of carefully curated trendsetting and best-selling makeup, skincare, fragrance and nail care products. The beauty retailer will open at Tempe Marketplace early next year and will be located in The District near Bath & Body Works and Forever 21.

For those who need an escape, Fox in a Box Escape Room is anticipated to open this fall. Ranked as the country’s #1 escape room, Fox in a Box brings entertainment to the next level. Guests can be immersed into a prison playing “Life Sentence,” escaping from the “Zodiac Killer,” saving the world from a nuclear war in the “Bunker” or robbing a bank in “Mastermind.” It will be located on the east side of The District near Harkins Theatres and Buckle.

Other recent additions to Tempe Marketplace include TaylorMade Phades, a multicultural barbershop that specializes in the holistic hair care of men, women and children, which opened in May, and nutritional supplement retailer NUTRISHOP, which will open in August. Tempe Marketplace also recently welcomed Creations Boutique, a Tucson-based pop-up women’s clothing retailer specializing in fashion-forward and bohemian-inspired looks for women.

“Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Tempe Marketplace continues to grow and evolve. Prospective tenants are taking notice, and expanding brands are selecting the center as the perfect spot for their next location.” said Taylor Alvey, vice president of leasing at Vestar, Tempe Marketplace’s parent company.

Total Wine & More opens in Lafayette this Week

The Advocate  – by Megan Wyatt, Staff Writer

August 3, 2020 – 12:57 PM

Total Wine & More, the country’s largest independent fine wine retailer, will open its second Louisiana location this week in Lafayette’s River Marketplace at the corner of Ambassador Caffery Parkway and Kaliste Saloom Road.

The Lafayette store boasts about 30,000 square feet of wine, beer, spirits and snacks. Most of what’s available is affordable, and much of it can’t be found at any other store.

“It’s a candy store for grownups,” says Brian Bajat, the Lafayette store manager. “No matter who you are or what you like, there’s something for everyone.”

The Maryland-based retailer carries about 8,000 different wines, 2,500 beers and 3,000 spirits.

Customers can spend less than $4 for a bottle of budget-friendly red wine or more than $4,000 for a high-end Scotch whiskey.

There are shelves dedicated to Louisiana wines, beers, spirits and snacks. Also inside: a cigar room and private area for tasting classes.

The store’s 50 employees have been busy stocking and training to prepare for the store’s opening at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Bajat said the store will offer samples and jazz music later in the day, along with safety measures in place to keep customers and staff safe.

“We’re not just selling wine. We’re selling experiences,” Bajat said. “That’s why it’s so fun to engage with our customers. They may be buying this wine for a dinner party or an engagement or an anniversary, so forever that wine is tied to that experience.”

Started in Delaware in 1991, Total Wine & More operates more than 200 stores in 24 states, including one in Metairie that opened this summer.

The Lafayette location at 4407 Ambassador Caffery Parkway will be open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Tastings take place from noon to 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and from 2 to 6 p.m. Sundays. Learn more at totalwine.com.

Western Retail Advisors Helps Bob’s Discount Furniture Open Four New-to-Market Stores.

All four stores are set to open across the Valley of the Sun by Labor Day.

PHOENIX, AZ (August 3, 2020) – Bob’s Discount Furniture, one of the fastest growing furniture retailers in the country, will celebrate its first four store openings in Arizona this month. The first-to-market Desert Ridge Marketplace store is opening this Friday, August 7th, with three more opening before Labor Day at the Arrowhead Festival Shopping Center in Glendale, Crossroads Towne Center on the border of Chandler and Gilbert, and in Tempe at the Groves shopping center. Bob’s was represented by Neil Board and Ryan Desmond at Western Retail Advisors.

“Bob’s Discount Furniture is paving the way in the furniture industry. They are well known for being an exceptional place to both work and shop and their commitment to the communities they serve is admirable. We are honored to have helped them find a home here in Arizona,” said Ryan Desmond, Partner at Western Retail Advisors. “Bob’s has successfully navigated a challenging retail landscape and continues to expand. That says a lot about the strength of their business model and their ability to adapt to a changing world,” added Desmond.

All four Phoenix Grand Openings will be celebrated on September 1 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and in-store fun. As part of the Grand Openings, Bob’s will also be making a donation of $2,500 to four local non-profits.

Bob opened his first store in central Connecticut in 1991. Out of the gate his store was different. There were no sales or gimmicks. There were no pushy sales people or shady gimmicks. Bob wanted his customers to feel as good about shopping Bob’s as they felt about their new furniture. The cherry on top? He included free candy, cookies, coffee and ice cream in all his stores. Today Bob’s has over 120 stores coast to coast, and yet “Bob’s Way” keeps them honest, transparent and fun.

“Like Western Retail Advisors, Bob’s is built on honesty, integrity and long-standing relationships,” said Desmond.

Looking ahead to 2021, Bob’s is moving forward with their regular expansion plans, expanding at a pace of roughly 15 to 18 new stores every year. “We took proactive health and safety measures, and our business has been positive since we’ve reopened,” said Roger Dunlap, SVP of Sales and Operations at Bob’s Furniture of the COVID outbreak. He added that the company feels optimistic about its growth plans, despite the pandemic, because “the business model of providing quality furniture that everyone can afford is working.”

About Bob’s Discount Furniture

Founded in 1991, Bob’s Discount Furniture is one of the fastest growing furniture retailers in the country. Keeping true to its founding principle that everyone deserves quality furniture, Bob’s provides unsurpassed value with honesty and integrity. Through all the work that happens behind the scenes, Bob’s engineers this value, offering its discount on a wide variety of stylish, quality furnishings, mattresses, and home accents.

With 128 furniture stores across 20 states, the Manchester, Connecticut-based company has become the 12th-largest U.S. furniture chain and proudly holds an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. In 2019, Bob’s was recognized as a leader in sustainability by both the Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), and listed as a top scorer on the Wood Furniture Scorecard 2019. The company is committed to supporting local communities through a variety of charitable giving efforts. Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation has anchored the company’s philanthropic work for more than 20 years. Additionally, the Bob’s Outreach program was created as a separate entity to help schools and children-related charities. The company donates more than $2.75 million to charities through these programs each year.
